Foul weather birding

Posted on 4 December, 2015 at 8:05

If you live in the North East you will know that we've had a LOT of wind and rain recently.  Our bird class trip on Tuesday 1st December was to Boulmer on the North Sea coast.  As we drove up the A1 we were beginning to doubt the sanity of the trip as the windscreen wipers were struggling to cope with the deluge.  But when we arrived David, our leader, was in good (but wet) spirits.  The class size should be about 20 - there were 7 of us... ... However, the tide was in so the waders were close.  The highlights were Grey Plovers and Red-breasted Mergansers - actually we totalled 40 species for the day - so it was not all in vain.  I didn't actually take my camera because of the weather conditions - but, as they say on Blue Peter, here's one I prepared earlier, a Merganser seen in Iceland.
